What does it mean to travel for a living? Do you pack a bag to go home? When you fly do you know the procedure better than the gate attendant? Do you struggle to remember your home zip code? When you fill out forms do you put down your cell phone as the "home phone?"
If you answered yes to any of the above you are likely a Transient Professional. We are homeless with a home, workers that follow the work across the country. "Road warriors" are what most people call professionals that spend a lot of time flying from home to other cities. Well I travel with a company of 70 people. I am a roadie on a Broadway tour. This is actually an easy gig compared to many transient professionals. Some Rock 'n Roll Roadies never bother staying anywhere but the bus - if they are lucky enough to have a bus. Some construction workers that specialize in one trade or another travel from city to city in their own vehicles and work 40-60 hours a week away from family and home for months.
Is it a good job? I have friends and associates all over this great country. One day I will stop traveling, but for now I see my friends every now and again and I always plan on coming back. I have been doing this for a living only a short while (since September, 1995), but I love the work and the challenge.
